ANICORN partners with SEGA to pay homage to a gaming legend, the SEGA Mega Drive/Genesis, by introducing a trio of exquisitely designed timepieces that draw inspiration from the iconic console's design.

A Legend Revisited

The SEGA Mega Drive, initially released in 1988 to a modest reception in the Japanese market, soon emerged as a global phenomenon. By 1992, the Mega Drive - renamed Genesis for the North American market - had overtaken its competitors to become the best-selling video game console worldwide, selling nearly 40 million units in its lifetime. This revolutionary console marked a turning point, bringing the thrilling arcade experience into the homes of millions.

A Design Ahead of Its Time

The Mega Drive's industrial design was a paradigm shift in the gaming industry. It departed from the conventional boxy, toy-like console designs of its time. Instead, it fused cutting-edge 1980s hi-fi aesthetics with typographic motifs inspired by performance sports cars. SEGA’s intent was clear: the Mega Drive epitomized processing power, performance, and style.

This bold and confident attitude was not only reflected in the console's form but also in its library of games. Titles like Sonic the Hedgehog, Streets of Rage, The Revenge of Shinobi, Comix Zone, Dynamite Headdy, and Ristar captured the essence of state-of-the-art audiovisual innovation and the undeniable energy of the arcade experience.

Design

Case, Top Cover

The timepieces take inspiration from the iconic SEGA Mega Drive / Genesis console’s retro design to create a watch case and cover design that embodies the spirit of gaming nostalgia.

Capturing the essence of the SEGA Mega Drive / Genesis console, allowing wearers to carry a piece of gaming history on their wrists.

Typeface

The retro pixel font aims at evoking a sense of nostalgia and paying tribute to the 16-bit era of graphics. The 16-bit resolution refers to the graphical capabilities of early video game consoles from the 1980s and 1990s.

By incorporating this pixelated typography on the timepiece, it creates a visual connection to the era of retro gaming and computer graphics, appealing to individuals who have fond memories of playing games on consoles like the SEGA Mega Drive / Genesis.

Case back and Leather Strap

The timepiece proudly showcases the iconic logo of the SEGA MegaDrive/Genesis console, tastefully embossed on its premium leather strap. Additionally, the logo is elegantly printed on the exhibition caseback, allowing enthusiasts to admire and reminisce about the gaming heritage that the SEGA MegaDrive/Genesis represents.

This thoughtful incorporation of the logo serves as a constant reminder of the console's influential role in gaming history, making a cherished timepiece for both gaming aficionados and watch enthusiasts.

Packaging

The timepiece is presented in a “console” box which contains a metal numbered plate with an individual number and a tailored booklet of the legendary console.
